Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about our crew-based approach, street cat welfare, and how you can support the project.

Why do you focus on "crews" instead of individual cats?

Street cats naturally form stable social groups in specific territories. By supporting entire crews, we provide more sustainable care, prevent territorial conflicts, and ensure no cat is left behind when neighbors move or resources shift.

How can I help a cat I see in Marrakech?

First, check our cat map to see if we already track that cat or crew. If so, you can sponsor them directly. For new cats or urgent medical needs, use our "Report a Cat" feature. For general support, consider a donation that helps all crews.

Are these cats available for adoption?

Most Marrakech street cats are semi-feral and not suited for indoor adoption. However, some socialized cats and kittens may be adoptable. Check individual cat profiles for their adoption status.

What does my donation actually pay for?

Your donation covers: veterinary care (spay/neuter, vaccinations, emergency treatment), daily feeding, volunteer coordinator salaries, mapping and tracking tools, and partnerships with local vets and feeding teams.

Do you work with local Moroccans or just tourists?

We prioritize partnerships with local Marrakech residents and veterinary clinics. Our team includes local coordinators, and we train community members in responsible cat welfare. Tourist support helps fund these local partnerships.

How do you prevent cats from breeding if feeding them?

We operate a strict "feed + fix" model. Every crew is enrolled in a TNR (trap-neuter-return) program. We never feed unsterilized adults. This stabilizes populations without removing cats from their territories.

What happens to sick or injured cats?

Our network of veterinary partners provides emergency care. Depending on severity, cats receive treatment on-site, temporary foster care, or clinic-based recovery. Terminally ill cats receive humane end-of-life care.

Can I visit the cats when I travel to Marrakech?

Some crews are in tourist-friendly locations and welcome respectful visitors. Check the crew detail pages for "visitor-friendly" status and location notes. Please follow our guidelines: no flash photography, no feeding, and maintain distance.
